Doxycycline hyclate is a semisynthetic tetracycline antibiotic and is freely soluble in aqueous solution (50 mg/mL). Tetracyclines pass the cell membrane and bind to the 30S ribosomal subunit interfering with the tRNA/mRNA interaction and ultimately inhibiting protein synthesis.

Doxycycline hyclate is a broad spectrum antibiotic primarily targeting bacteria responsible for respiratory infections including Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.
