Bialaphos is a tripeptide antibiotic that is used in transformation experiments of many species of plants that make use of the bar gene for selection. In corn it is more effective than glufosinate. In wheat, bialaphos was the most reliable selection criteria used to identify bar transformed plants.

10mg/ml Bialaphos Stock Solution

1. Weigh 0.1 g of Bialaphos.
2. Add 10 ml of sterile H₂O. Dissolve completely.
3. Prewet a 0.2 µm syringe filter by drawing through 5-10 ml of sterile H₂O. and discard water.
4. Sterilize Bialaphos Stock through the prepared 0.2 µm syringe filter.
5. Stock may be kept at -20°C for 1 year.
