Thimerosal is an organomercury compound known as well-established antiseptic and antifungal agent. Thimerosal is mostly used as a preservative in vaccines. Thimerosal potently inhibits the de-catenation activity of DNA topoisomerase lla, through reaction with critical free cysteine thiol group.
