Salinomycin is an ionophore antibacterial agent that also has antiprotozoal capabilities, enabling it to send ions through cell membranes.  This action causes an imbalance in the cell which leads to the inhibition of energy production.  Salinomycin is commonly used against gram-positive bacteria.
