Oxolinic acid is a quinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting the enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV in affected non-resistant cells which disrupts the synthesis of DNA. Oxolinic acid works by inhibiting the enzyme DNA-gyrase.
Potent against rickettsia, mycoplasma and spirochaeta.
Reported toxicity LD50 in mice, rats (mg/kg): >6000, >2000 orally (Turner)
