Molecular Weight: | 329.740 g/mol |
Chromogenic substrate for β-galactosidase yielding a salmon colored precipitate. 6-Chloro-3-indoxyl-β-D-galactopyranoside can be used in conjunction with Isopropyl-β-D-thiogalacto-pyranoside as an alternative to 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl β-D-galactopyranoside (X-gal) for detection of β-galactosidase activity in bacterial colonies in a colorimetric assay to detect recombinants (white) from non-recombinants (salmon). In conjunction with X-Glc, Salmon-Gal is useful for simultaneous detection of GUS and Lac activities on the same plate.
White to off-white crystalline powder or colorless crystals
