Oxytetracycline is a widely used broad spectrum antibiotic in the tetracycline family.  Oxytetracycline has been shown to be potent against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia, Spirochaeta.  Oxytetracycline binds to the ribosomal 30s subunit and interacts with 16S rRNA in a way that it inhibits the synthesis of essential proteins in non-resistant cells.
