Lomefloxacin hydrochloride is a third generation broad fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Lomefloxacin HCl works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase so as to inhibit the replication of DNA.
Lomefloxacin is highly effectively against Enterobacteriaceae such as E. coli, Shigella, Klebsiella, Proteus, Enterobacter. Influenza bacillus and Neisseria gonorrhoeae are highly senitive to it. It also has some antibacterial action on Acinetobacter, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus, pneumococcus and hemolytic streptococcus.
