Description
Ribostamycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic similar in action to Gentamycin and is freely soluble in aqueous solution at 88.7 mg/mL. Ribostamycin works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins by binding to the ribosome and disrupting translocation of tRNA during translation in non-resistant cells.
Mechanism
Aminoglycosides target the 30S ribosomal subunit resulting in an inability to read mRNA ultimately producing a faulty or nonexistent protein.
Spectrum
Ribostamycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic targeting a wide range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
