Chlortetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity including both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. It is extracted from fermentaztion broth of Spretomyces aureofaciens. It is also a cell-permeable fluorescent probe for Ca2+ for measuring calcium flux in endoplasmic reticulum and other intracellular stores in situ.
